Villa-Lobos in the Wikipedia Universe

It's been cool watching the (English) Villa-Lobos page on Wikipedia grow over the years.  It's now a fairly comprehensive resource, with lots of references.  There's also a List of compositions by Heitor Villa-Lobos.

Also important is the Portuguese page, which is a major source of visits to this site.

Here are the Wikipedia Villa-Lobos articles in other languages:

The Heirs of Villa-Lobos by Tom Moore

An interesting web essay by Tom Moore on, "The Heirs of Villa-Lobos : a look at contemporary classical music in Brazil."

Moore includes references to Cesar Guerra-Peixe (1914-1993), Edino Krieger, Claudio Santoro, Hans-Joachim Koellreutter, and David Korenchendler.

Classical Guitarist Harry Pellegrin's website has something for everyone.  Villa-Lobos-loving guitarists will want to check out his book Classic Guitar Method, and the Villa-Lobos Technique sessions on the website.

Felicja Blumental

Pianist Felicja Blumental is an important figure in the life and music of Villa-Lobos. She commissioned the fifth piano concerto in 1954, and played at the world premiere on May 8, 1955, along with the London Philharmonic, conducted by Jean Martinon.

The 10th Felicja Blumental International Music Festival2008 is the Centenary of this great pianist. As well, the 10th Felicja Blemental International Music Festival will take place this year, from May 19-24, at the Tel Aviv Museum of Art.

Translate from Portuguese!

Translate from Portuguese using Google Translate.  Google's machine translation isn't perfect (yet), but it's better than nothing!

Villa-Lobos, a êxtase brasileira

Villa-Lobos, a êxtase brasileira is a page on, which has some neat features.  You have to sign up on Multiply to hear the music that's shared.

Unfortunately, Google's machine translation from Portuguese is giving me only a sketchy idea of the content.  Still, this is a site to watch.
