As Costureiras ("The Sewing Girls") - Embolada

The words were written by Villa-Lobos.  Though Appleby (1988) and Sua Obras (1989) both give 1933 as the date of composition, the first performance was in 1932, so I'm going with 1932.

The Coro Madrigale sing As Costureiras, from a December 2009 concert.

Instrumentation:

Female chorus (SSAA) a capella

Scores:

Heitor Villa-Lobos. As costureiras = The sewing girls : for full chorus of women's voices, a cappella. New York : G. Schirmer, ©1945.

Performances:

The first performance of this work was on 7/9/1932, in Rio de Janeiro.I've seen only a single performance of this work (as of May 2009),  which is surprising considering the quality of this piece.
