The work is dedicated to Paulina d'Ambrozio.  Villa-Lobos adapted the work for violin & piano, and Appleby gives it the catalogue number W175.

The premiere performance of the complete work was on April 23, 1941, with Oscar Borgerth playing the violin, and Albert Wolff conducting the Orquestra do Teatro Municipal do Rio de Janeiro.  The second movement was first performed by Paulina d'Ambrozio under the direction of the composer, December 9, 1922, also at the Teatro Municipal.Years after Bergerth's first performance, he played the work with the Boston Symphony for a radio broadcast:

Dutch violinist Marijn Simons has this work in his repertoire.  I have a single performance listed in the Villa-Lobos Concerts database: with the Long Beach Symphony and conductor Enrique Arturo Diemecke in 2003. [Jan 2012: there's another performance with the same soloist and conductor, but with the Orquesta Sinfónica Nacional (of Mexico, I believe), posted on YouTube:
