Música em torno do Modernismo

Category:

Música em torno do Modernismo

This compilation CD is included in

Schwartz, Jorge. 2003. Caixa modernista. São Paulo, SP, Brasil: Edusp.

It includes excerpts from the classic Paris recordings conducted by the composer: Choros #10, and the first suite from Descobrimento do Brasil.  As well, Jose Miguel Wisnik plays Melodia da Montanha, and the Coral do Centro Educacional de Niteroi sing the choral piece Estrela e Lua Nova.

The most exciting piece on the disc, though, (since I hadn't heard it before) is the 1975 Brazilian recording of the Nonetto, by the Orquestra do Concurso Nacional de Regência do Rio de Janeiro de 1975.

Other works include Ernesto Nazareth himself playing Escovado, Marcelo Bratke playing "Sorocaba" form Milhaud's Saudades do Brasil, Jose Miguel Wisnik playing Anacleo de Medeiros' classic xote (or schottische) Yara, El Almirante performing Lamartine Babo's samba march História do Brasil, and Lais de Souza Brasil playing a Ponteio by Camargo Guarnieri.
